Western drops finale at St. Thomas

Leathernecks next at Bradley on Tuesday

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Leathernecks fell in the final game of their three-game set at St. Thomas on Sunday, losing 1-2 in seven innings.
The Tommies claimed the rubber game of the set, winning two of three games over the weekend.
St. Thomas took an early lead, scoring four runs in the second, then added four more runs in the fifth, taking control and an 8-0 advantage.
St. Thomas would go up 9-0 after six innings before Western Illinois would scratch across a pair of runs in the seventh.
Derek Botaletto singled home Gage Cruz to make it 9-1, then Chase VanDerGist scored on an error to draw the Leathernecks to within 9-2.
St. Thomas would end the game early, tallying three in the bottom of the seventh.
The Leathernecks (5-35) finished with four hits in the game.
Western is next in action on Tuesday, traveling to Peoria to take on Bradley at 6 p.m.
The game is a reschedule from a rainout earlier this season.
