Leathernecks Drop Series Finale to Bison

Western Illinois is on the road for its next series, playing Kansas City on April 23.

OMAHA, Neb. – The Western Illinois University Fighting Leatherneck softball team played on Saturday (April 16), falling 1-10 to the North Dakota State Bison. Western Illinois moves to 3-9 against Summit League competition for the year and will face Kansas City on the road next weekend.

Abby Carlin started in the circle for Western Illinois, allowing five hits and eight runs (three earned) across three innings of work. Emily Price came in for the game's final inning and struck out one while giving up four hits and two earned runs (both earned). Like the previous matchups, NDSU's offense got rolling in the middle innings after Western took an early lead.

The Leatherneck offense found early success in the game for the second consecutive day, with Ami Ill singling to right center from the leadoff spot and Kaylee Ketcherside advancing Ill to second with a single of her own. After Savannah Rodriguez grounded out to advance both runners, Jorja Hudson hit a groundball to the Bison pitcher that pushed Ill across home plate to give Western Illinois a one-run advantage.

Daytona Dooley and Abrianna Gracia also managed to get on base with hits throughout the game, while Rodriguez, Ill and Hudson all got on base with walks throughout the game.

Western is back in action next Saturday (April 23) for a three-game series with Kansas City. Saturday's doubleheader will be played at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., and Sunday's single game will start at 11 a.m.
