Leathernecks Fall in Series Finale at SDSU

| By:

Western faces North Dakota State next weekend.

Box Score BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Western Illinois Fighting Leatherneck softball team was in action on Sunday (April 10), dropping the final game of a three-game series against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. With the result, Western moves to 3-6 against Summit League competition.

Savannah Rodriguez started her sixth game of the season for Western and pitched the first 3.1 innings, allowing six hits and four runs (four earned) while striking out four. Lilli Weir entered the game in the bottom of the fourth, allowing four hits and four earned runs in her ninth appearance of the season.

Western's offense struggled in game three against the Jackrabbit pitchers, with a fifth-inning single by Abrianna Gracia resulting in the only Leatherneck hit for the day. The team's plate discipline did play a factor, however, as Ami Ill, Savannah Rodriguez, Gabriela Drager and Bella Alvarez all walked at various points throughout the game and created opportunities for the WIU bats to push runners across the plate.

The Leathernecks are back in action on Friday (April 15) and Saturday (April 16), traveling to Fargo, N.D. to face the Bison of North Dakota State. A doubleheader is scheduled for 12 and 2 p.m. on Friday with an 11 a.m. start on Saturday.
