Leathernecks snap skid vs. Evansville

Carlin’s arm, Ketcherside’s bat lead the way

Box Score MURRAY, Kent. – The Western Illinois softball team snapped a five-game skid on Sunday, topping Evansville 2-0 in the first day of play at the Racer Classic in Murray, Kentucky.
Abby Carlin pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout, striking out 10 Evansville hitters.
The Leatherneck offense was paced by Kaylee Ketcherside, who knocked in both runs.
Gabriele Drager had a big day at the plate for Western Illinois, reaching base three times, twice with hits and once with a walk.
Drager also scored a run.
It was Drager who started the offense, singling in top of the fifth.
Torince Muczynski would come on to pitch run and eventually score on Ketcherside's first RBI.
In the top of the seventh, it was Drager getting the rally started again, drawing a walk.
With two outs, Ketcherside would come through, tripling Drager home to add the insurance run.
The two runs were enough for Carlin, who only allowed two hits and never let Evansville put multiple runners on base.
The Leathernecks and Purple Aces meet again on Monday with the first pitch scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
WIU then meets host Murray State with a scheduled first pitch of 4:45 p.m.
