Men’s Golf Wins 2022 ASU Spring Classic

Western Illinois had two golfers place in the top three to win the invitational.

PRATTVILLE, ILL.- Western Illinois men's golf took home the gold at the 2022 ASU Spring Classic, hosted by Alabama State University. The team scored a +40 overall to take first place. Full results can be found here.
 
"Proud of the men for persevering in tough course conditions," said WIU Director of Golf Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "This was a good test of our iron game and lag putting. We can build on our approach placement. Good to see seniors Cam and Parker play well."
 
The combo of Cameron Karney and Parker Govern proved to be the difference-maker to give WIU the tournament crown. Karney placed second with an overall score of +6. His best round was in round two, where he shot a +2 overall with three birdies. Govern finished just a few strokes above Karney to place t-third. Govern had a great opening round where he ended with three birdies to score a +1 overall. He also birdied on hole 17 in the second round. All five Leathernecks ended within the top-16 in the event.

The men's golf team will be back in action next week, Monday (Feb. 28)- Tuesday (March 1), to compete in the 2022 Golf Coast Collegiate hosted by Nicholls State University and the University of New Orleans.
