Men’s Golf Prepares For Second Tournament of Fall Season

The Western Illinois men's golf team will compete in its second tournament of the fall season in the Zach Johnson Invitational, hosted by Drake University. The Leathernecks will compete at the Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines, Iowa. The course will be a par-71, 6898-yard course. The teams will play 54 holes total, with 36 on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Shotgun start on Monday will be at 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Tuesday. Live stats can be found here.
 
Words From Coach | "We are looking for Cam to have another good performance. We have one tournament under our belt now so we will be looking for improvements this week," said WIU Director of Golf Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "We will be focusing on accuracy off the tee and keeping the ball on the correct side of the hole."
 
Last Time Out | The men's golf team competed just over a week ago in their first tournament of the fall in the Valpo Fall Invitational. The Leathernecks competed in a 12-team tournament and placed 11 with a team score of +82 over par.
 
Watch Out for Karney | Senior Cameron Karney had the best outing for WIU in its first tournament, finishing with an overall score of +7 over par to place t-16. The Crystal Lake, Ill., native nearly had the best round of his career in the opening round, shooting a 69. Karney's best career round stands at 68, which he shot in the third round of the Zach Johnson Invitational back in 2019. He also shot a 68 in two rounds at the Panther Relays Spring Invitational in 2021.
 
Great Competition Lies Ahead | Western Illinois will be one of 15 teams competing in this year's Zach Johnson Invitational. Western will see a pair of Summit League opponents in North Dakota and North Dakota State.
