Previous matchup: The last time Western Illinois Women's Soccer played UNI was on Sept. 23, 2019, at John MacKenzie Alumni Field in Macomb, winning 3-2 in front of over 100 fans. Zoe Clarke, Jenna Lundgren and Amy Andrews all started and scored in the game. Leatherneck women's soccer holds a 9-4-2 all-time record against the Panthers dating back to their first matchup in 2004.
 
Players to watchAmy Andrews and Angie Knies were named by the Summit League as players to watch for the 2021 season.
 
Andrews was a 2020-21 All-Summit League first teamer after playing 15 games (14 starts) last season, finishing third in the league with seven goals and tied for eighth with 14 total points. Her two game-winning goals was third best in the Summit League as well. A regular starter last year, Andrews has netted 14 goals in 49 appearances (37 starts) during her three seasons as a Leatherneck.
 
Knies started every game last season as a true freshman, finishing fourth on the team with 1,399 minutes played and playing 90 minutes or more on 11 occasions. The defender/midfielder finished the year with six shots and two on goal. The Ely, Iowa, native scored two goals in two exhibition appearances during the team's 2021 preseason.
 
So far this season: The Leathernecks started the year with back-to-back losses against Nebraska and UW-Milwaukee. After not scoring a goal in either game, they exploded against Illinois State, outshooting the opponents 22-19 and winning 4-3. Amy Andrews scored all four Leatherneck goals, tying a program record for goals scored in a game by a single player; this record dates back over 20 years.

Scouting the opponent: After losing to Omaha in their season opener and following that up with a 6-0 victory against Viterbo University, Northern Iowa played St. Thomas to a scoreless draw on Tuesday (Aug. 24). The Panther attack is led by Lauren Heinsch, who has scored two goals in three appearances this season and leads the team in overall points.
 
What's next: After Sunday's matchup, the Leathernecks will head to Flames Field in Chicago, Ill., for a game with the UIC Flames. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 5).
