Warkentien Ties Career-High, NDSU Takes Series Opener 2-0

Jace Warkentien tied his career-high of 10 strikeouts on Friday (April 9) evening.

FARGO, N.D. - Newman Outdoor Stadium is a special place for Jace Warkentien. The lefty tied his career-high of 10 strikeouts in a 2-0 setback against North Dakota State (19-8, 10-5).

"Jace and Jackson came out and threw the ball really well today against a good hitting team," said head coach Andy Pascoe. "Now we just need to figure out how to put a complete game together again as a whole."

Warkentien last set the career mark against the Bison on April 26, 2019, for Western Illinois (9-17, 5-8). Dealt with an unfortunate loss, he tossed seven innings and has now totaled 26 punchouts in his last four starts.

NDSU's starter Cade Feeney (4-1) went the distance and tossed a complete game in the series opener. The game marked the first game in Fargo after 26 straight road games for the host.

The Leathernecks totaled three hits by Trenton Bauer, Chase VanDerGinst, and Derek Botaletto. Bauer's single came in the ninth but was left stranded.

Jackson Gray tossed a scoreless eighth with a strikeout to keep it a two-run game into the ninth.

The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader at 2 p.m. and can be seen on NDSU All-Access.
