Errors Favor Oral Roberts in Series Opener, 6-4

The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader slated at Noon.

MACOMB, Ill. - Oral Roberts (10-14, 3-2) took advantage of errors from Western Illinois (8-14, 4-5) to take game one of the series 6-4 on Thursday (April 1) afternoon.

"We beat ourselves today. Chandler came out and put together a great performance but we didn't make some plays behind him. Credit ORU for capitalizing on our mistakes," head coach Andy Pascoe said. "At the end of the day, we still found a way to get the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the 9th because this team never gives up. Now we just need to clean a few things up going into tomorrow."

Three miscues led to ORU jumping out to a 3-0 lead. WIU tied it in the sixth off a pair of doubles by Trenton Bauer and Dillon Sears. The double by Bauer was his team-leading sixth to continue his 12-game hitting streak.

Chandler Fochs was dominant in his sixth start of the season. The right-hander threw six innings and didn't allow any earned runs to complement six strikeouts and one walk. He limited the Golden Eagles to only four hits.

After Western's three-run half, Oral Roberts responded with their own and took a 6-3 lead.

The Leathernecks showed late life in the ninth as Toby Allred doubled down the left-field line for his second of the hit day and came around to score on a Diego Munoz single. WIU brought the winning run to the plate, but ORU held on to take the opener.

The series continues tomorrow (April 2) with a doubleheader starting at Noon. Jace Warkentien gets the start in game one and both games will be streamed free on Leatherneck All-Access.
