Kickoff | After finally playing Macomb for the first time this season last weekend, the Western Illinois women's soccer team begins three straight road series, starting at South Dakota (March 12 & 14).

Between the Pipes | This season, three goalies have made appearances in goal. The trio of Isabel Navas Rodriguez, Lauriane Castonguay, and Megan Rasmussen have combined for a league-leading 44 saves. Rasmussen started both home games against North Dakota and stopped 12 total shots while earning her first career start in the series opener.

Summit Leaders and Marks | Individually, Freshman Isabel Navas Rodriguez leads the conference with 29 saves, second in saves per game (4.83), and sits fifth in save percentage. Her nine saves in both games at Denver are the second-most by a league player this season.  As a team, WIU is the Summit leader in saves (44), and the 17 shots at NDSU are the sixth-most by a team this season and marked a new season-high in shots.

The Attack | Jenna Lundgren (12), Amy Andrews (12), and Zoe Clarke (10) all have fired double-digit shots this season.

A List of First | The 2021 season has marked a collection of career firsts. Natalie Nagle scored her first career goal vs. KC for the first WIU goal of the season. Emma Brinkmann, Angie Knies, Ella Kiely, Maddie Hasken, Isabel Navas Rodriguez, Megan Rasmussen, Bailey Burlingham, and Audrey Narine have all made their first career start.

Scouting the Opponent | South Dakota is 1-5 overall and is coming off back-to-back losses at Omaha… USD owns the all-time series 7-3-1… in 2019, they finished tied for fifth in The Summit… seniors Alexis Mitchell was named to the Summit League's preseason watch list and earned 2019 All-Summit League second-team honors as well as named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's All-Region team.

Back of the Net | WIU returns 100 percent of their goal scorers from last season, led by Amy Andrews, who had a team-leading six goals and wrote her name into the individual match-record for points (4) and goals (2) in a game vs. UIC. She now sits tied seventh all-time for game-winning goals with three.

Preseason Recognition | Defenders Lauryn Peters and Bridget Schuler were named 2021 Summit League Preseason Players to Watch. The duo anchored four shutouts and started all 18 games, and played all 1660 minutes last year. The pair have continued the tradition and have missed a minute so far this season.

Up Next | WIU continues the road stretch at Oral Roberts (March 19 & 21) and Omaha (April 2 & 4).
