WIU Softball Completes Fall Season

The eight exhibition games were used to develop skills ahead of the 2022 season.

MACOMB, ILL. – The Western Illinois Fighting Leatherneck softball team has concluded its 2021 Fall season, matching up against eight different teams and finishing the schedule undefeated. The schedule spanned across five different weekends and included a matchup with Illinois.

"It was so fun to have a fall season again after losing it last year to the pandemic. I think most coaches will tell you that we view fall games as an opportunity to gain information about our team - things you need to address or really focus on in practice, as well as see what kind of depth you have at different positions," head coach Alisa Goler said. "We spent a lot of time on our base running reads, having pitchers come in with different roles, and trying to give everyone some at-bats. Yes, it's the fall, but they showed up each game and did what we had to do, and I'm proud of their performance. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we cannot wait for February."

In the team's first season under Coach Goler, the Leathernecks went 16-29 and at one point went on a six-game winning streak. The 2022 season is scheduled to begin in early February and more information will be released at a later date.
