WIU Athletics Announces Virtual Leatherneck Pep Rally

Let’s rally together. Virtually, of course.

Who doesn't enjoy a good pep rally? Especially one where you don't have to leave your home? 

Western Illinois Athletics is providing the perfect opportunity on Saturday, May 16, with its first-ever virtual Leatherneck Pep Rally. Meet a few new coaches and staff, sit in on a Q&A session with WIU Athletic Hall of Famers, and compete for prizes in Leatherneck Trivia. The schedule is PACKED, and it ends with a radio rebroadcast of a WIU football game that YOU, the fans, will have an opportunity to choose. 

HOFers Mike Scifres (football), Holly Van Vlymen (softball), and John Sanders (men's soccer) are all confirmed for the panel, so circle May 16 on your calendar for a fun-filled day that begins at 11 a.m. 

Schedule of Events
11:00 a.m. – Start your tailgate (Post pictures of your virtual tailgate on Facebook and Twitter using the tag #LeatherneckPepRally)
11:30 a.m. –  Music playlist release (Facebook & Twitter) 
12:00 p.m. – The Marching Leathernecks take the field (Facebook & Twitter)
12:15 p.m. –  #TRADITIONofTOUGH (Facebook & Twitter)
12:30 p.m. – Leatherneck Trivia hosted by the Voice of the Leathernecks Danny Frey (Zoom)
1:00 p.m. – Re-live women's basketball's 2017 Summit League Championship win (Facebook & Twitter)
1:30 p.m. – Meet new members of the athletic staff (Facebook & Twitter)
2:00 p.m. – Hall of Fame Q&A Panel hosted live with Danny Frey (Zoom)
2:30 p.m. – A Message from the Director of Athletics Danielle Surprenant (Facebook & Twitter) 
3:00 p.m. – Radio rebroadcast of WIU football vs. Southern Illinois (Leatherneck Sports Network) 

Unless otherwise specified, content will be posted to the main athletic account @WIUAthletics on Facebook and Twitter. Fans can listen to the radio rebroadcast of the SIU game at WRMS 94.3 or WJEQ 102.7. 

Wear your favorite purple and gold gear, and host your own Zoom conference with friends and family. Add a little flare with these backgrounds, and be sure to register your tailgate here for a chance to have a Leatherneck coach, Rocky, or Colonel Rock IV "Ray" stop by. 

In partnership with the Leatherneck Club, fans are encouraged to share screenshots of their virtual tailgates, using the tag #LeatherneckPepRally, and you could win exclusive Leatherneck Club goodies. 

Western Illinois continues to encourage fans to follow national, state, and local guidelines regarding COVID-19. Stay home and party with your fellow Leathernecks virtually!
