Western Illinois has won back-to-back tournaments after winning the Benbow Invitational behind Kyle Irlbacker's medalist performance.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Kyle Irlbacker turned in the second-best 36-hole score in program history while sealing medalist honors a Western Illinois men's golf team victory at the Benbow Invitational held at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club on Tuesday (March 10). The accomplishments mark back-to-back individual and team victories for the Leathernecks.

"It's fantastic to have another team and individual win," Director of Golf Lia Biehl Lukkarinen said. "Kyle showed his talent by having the only two rounds in the red for a solo win. The course has some challenging finishing holes; I was proud of the men hanging in there at the end. The last couple of performances will give us confidence moving into the rest of the spring season."

Irlbacker managed a 69 in round two to wrap up at 137 (-5) for his career-low 36-hole score. Cameron Karney claimed 10th place after shooting a 77 for a combined total of 152 (+10) and fellow sophomore Parker Govern was right behind him tied for 11th with a two-round tally of 154 (+12).

Wyatt Spier (157) and Dylan Cervantes (164) each fired a 77 in the final round. As an individual Kolby Chup also turned in a 77 for his last round and finished 13th overall at 155 (+13). Joe Burke completed day two with a 162 total.

The Leathernecks held on to take the team title with a combined score of 597, three strokes ahead of Evansville in second place.

Western Illinois men's golf returns to action in two weeks at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate in Springfield, Mo., March 23-24.
