The Leathernecks all played similar to close out the Derek Dolenc Invitational

MADISON, Ill. — Round three scores for the Western Illinois men's golf team were bunched tightly together at the Derek Dolenc Invitational on Tuesday (Sept. 24). The Leathernecks as a team shot a combined three-round score of 892 (+40) at Gateway National Golf Links.

"The course played a little tougher with the wind today," graduate assistant coach Brodie Dakin said. "A lot of shots were left out there, but there were a ton of good swings to be happy about. They know what they need to work on heading into next week's tournament."

Kyle Irlbacker led the way by shooting a 74 in the third round for a total score of 215 (+2). He shot a career-low round of 66 in the second round on Monday and wound up tied for 13th individually. Sophomores Cameron Karney and Parker Govern both fired a 225 (+12).

Joe Burke finished with a tournament score of 231 (+18) and Wyatt Spier rounded out the group with a 239 (+26) after firing his tournament-low of 65 on day two.
UT Martin won handily with a combined score of 852, six strokes ahead of runner-up Tennessee Tech.

The Leathernecks play for the third consecutive week at the Zach Johnson Invitational hosted by Drake coming up Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
