Nicole Beebe racks up another 'Top-10' finish in Peoria

PEORIA, Ill. –Another race and another 'Top-10' finish for Western Illinois women's cross country runner Nicole Beebe and Quintin Thurman continued to improve at the Bradley Intercollegiate on Friday (Sept. 20).

"I'm excited that Nicole Beebe has another phenomenal finish," head coach Diane Wholey said. "The fields on both sides were strong and that always serves as a great barometer for where we are at in this point of the season."

Western's women trekked Detweiller Park to a sixth-place finish as host Bradley won the 20-team three-mile race.

Beebe took home seventh place with a three-mile personal best of 17:46.3, while Hailey Tranchitella crossed the finish line in 35th at 18:51.7. She was followed by Jacey Roper (19:31.4) and a pack of Leathernecks that included a personal record from Elyse Mathews (19:53.4) and Mackenzie Goldring rounded out the group (20:07.3).

Abigial Richter made her 2019 cross country debut with a time of 20:10.4 and Kaitlyn Mathews joined her sister in setting a PR of 20:27.8

Nessrine Zbeeb (21:17.2) set a personal record as well to round out the Western Illinois lineup.

Bradley won the men's 8K as Western took home 11th place. Thurman set another personal best with a final time of 28:22.9, nearly 20 seconds better than his previous best. Lucas Howett was right behind Thurman at 28:23.7.

Freshman Isaiah Moorman easily bested his previous personal record with a time of 29:11.4. Ross Smetzer (29:25.5) was the next Leatherneck to wrap up the course trailed by Kameron Morgan (30:29.0).

Olin Ortiz made his debut finishing the meet in 31:39.5. Cayson Frerichs turned in a time of 33:12.4.

"We have a few weekends off that will enable the team to focus specifically on the training for the big meets coming down the line," Wholey said.

Western does not compete again for nearly a month when both teams travel to the Indiana State Pre-National Meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
