Leatherneck Captains Earn NFL Mini-Camp Invites

Quentin Moon received a mini-camp invite from the Chicago Bears and Sean McGuire from the Minnesota Vikings.

MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois University football team saw two of its 2018 captains receive invitations to NFL mini-camps. Immediately following the conclusion of the 2019 Draft on Saturday (April 27), Quentin Moon received a call from the Chicago Bears and Sean McGuire one from the Minnesota Vikings.

Less than 24 hours prior, Khalen Saunders became the first Leatherneck drafted in 10 years with 84th overall pick by the Kansas City Chiefs.

All three have been major cogs in Western's game plans for the past four seasons.

Sean McGuire

The Leathernecks have called McGuire captain for the last three seasons, and rightfully so, as the quarterback has broken just about every passing record in school history. He became the program's all-time leader in passing yards (9,819), touchdowns (72), completions (771) and attempts (1,291) last season in his senior campaign.

"Sean's career speaks for itself. He is leaving Western Illinois having broken almost every school passing record, but Sean has done much more for this program than what you can see through numbers.  He embodies being a Leatherneck in every aspect of his life," said head coach Jared Elliott.  "We are ecstatic to see him continue what he has done here at the next level! Sean is a winner and will continue to demonstrate elite leadership and toughness in this next chapter."

Quentin Moon

After back-to-back honorable mentions, Moon finished his senior slate with Second Team All-MVFC accolades. The linebacker's name was listed amongst the best in the FCS a season ago where he ranked ninth in the nation in solo tackles (66), 16th in tackles (109) and third in forced fumbles (5).

"We asked a lot of Quentin during his time wearing the Purple and Gold. He has been right in the heart of our defense and an inspirational leader to our program for many years," said Elliott. "Quentin brings a rare mixture of athleticism and physicality that will translate very well at the next level. He has always taken full advantage and made the most of every opportunity he gets, and it will be no different for him moving forward. I'm extremely excited to see his hard work and commitment pay off, and the desires of his heart fulfilled."
