Leathernecks Wrap Set at Arkansas

Western took on the 10th-ranked team in the nation for its final tune-up before Summit League play.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – In the final tune-up before the start of its Summit League schedule, the Western Illinois baseball team met No. 10 Arkansas inside Baum-Walker Stadium Wednesday (March 13), and played the 2018 College World Series runner-up to an 11-1 final.

The first run was the result of an error in the second inning, and the Razorbacks proceeded to increase their lead in each of the next three frames to hold a 7-0 edge by the end of the fifth.

Western responded in the sixth when Kevin Raisbeck and Dillon Sears each reached base to start the inning, and Bailey Montgomery brought a run home on an RBI-single to left field.

Seven Leatherneck pitchers made an appearance in the afternoon, kicked off by Justin Foy and Jace Warkentien who each worked two full innings with three strikeouts.

Western's home-opening, Summit League-opening weekend pits it against South Dakota State.
