Softball Continues Spring Break Road Trip

The Leathernecks take on Bethune-Cookman in a doubleheader Wednesday (March 13)

MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois softball team stays in the southeast part of the country for a doubleheader against Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday (March 13) beginning at 12 p.m. (CT).
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Leathernecks (6-10) finished 2-3 at the UGA Classic March 9-11. Western picked up its first shutout win of the season over Bowling Green while rallying to defeat the Flacons later in the tournament, 4-3.  
 
SEEING DOUBLES: Sydney Hollings hit four doubles while batting .500 for the series at Western Kentucky.
 
THANK YOU, COME AGAIN: Emily Ira struck out a season-high 13 batters in an 8-0 shutout win over Bowling Green on Saturday, March 9. Her career-high is 19 strikeouts.
 
LEADING OFF: Jasmine Lara has a team-best .346 batting average (18-for-52) early on in the season.  
 
P-MONEY: Payton Abbott has delivered several clutch hits this season including two home runs and a team-high 10 RBI.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Bethune-Cookman hails from the MEAC and owns a 7-21 overall record. The Wildcats have been competitive all season but have lost seven games in a row. Destiny Enriquez and Alexis Bermudez are the two main pitchers while Kaiya Epps-Lee paces her squad with 12 RBI at the plate.  

LOOKING AHEAD: WIU does not play until its Summit League and home opener against South Dakota at Mary Ellen McKee Stadium on Saturday, March 23 with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
