Volleyball Adds Skill and Height

Gabby DePersio will come in as a libero and Elle Shult provides presence at the net.

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois volleyball head coach Ben Staupe announced the addition of two players on Tuesday (Feb. 26).
 
Gabby DePersio | Libero | McHenry, Ill. (McHenry)
 
High School: Lettered all four years in volleyball at McHenry High School...All-Conference as a senior...Played club volleyball for VC United.
 
Personal: Born Sept. 19, 2000…Daughter of Vince and Michelle DePersio... Plans to pursue a nursing degree...Her older Sister Madison played college volleyball at Roosevelt University...Chose Western because it felt like home and had a great atmosphere.  
 
Coach Staupe on DePersio: "Gabby's court awareness will be a great addition to our defense. We are excited to bring in someone with her work ethic and energy. Her tenacity and speed to the ball are things that set her apart and will allow her to be successful."

High School: Lettered three years in volleyball after tearing her ACL as a freshman...Second team All-Conference as a sophomore...First team All-Conference during her junior and senior seasons...All-State as a senior...All-State Honorable Mention her junior campaign...As a senior in 2018, she was second on her team with 240 kills, led her squad with 123 blocks and a .436 hitting percentage...575 kills, 72 solo blocks, 276 total blocks and 48 aces over her high school career.
 
Personal: Born Nov. 5, 2000…Daughter of Chris and Trish Shult...Her cousins Jason and Mitch played volleyball at the Milwaukee School of Engineering...Hobbies include photography, boating, going to concerts and hanging out with friends.
 
Coach Staupe on Shult: "At 6'3', Elle will be a force to be reckoned with anywhere in the front row for the Leathernecks. Her power, positive attitude and drive are all things she can bring to our team. Elle comes from an elite high school and club program so we are excited to see that translate into our gym."
