Men's Golf Set for Alabama State Spring Kickoff

The two-day event runs from Feb. 25-26 at Lagoon Park Golf Course in Montgomery, Ala.

MONTGOMERY, ALA. – The Western Illinois men's golf team continues the spring slate at the Alabama State Spring Golf Kickoff starting on Monday (Feb. 25). The two-day event is hosted at the Lagoon Park Golf Course in Montgomery, Ala (Par 72, 6,800).

QUOTABLE:
"The Men's team has focused on putting and tee shots since returning from Utah," interim head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen said. "It is a new tournament on the men's side and we look forward to competing down south."
 
LAST OUTING: 
After a solid start on day one, the Western Illinois men's golf team finished in 10th place in the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah on Tuesday (Feb. 12).
 
Summit League Golfer to Watch, Jackson Wetherbee cruised to a 71 on day two for a combined score of 148 (+4). The senior from Galesburg wound up in 23rd overall. After shooting that same score in round one, Cameron Karney fired an 81 and Parker Govern turned in an 82 one round later. The freshmen duo finished with a 152 (+8) and a 153 (+9) respectively.
 
Wyatt Spier stayed consistent with a final round score of 81 to collect a total of 161 (+17) while John Duggan III shot an 86 for a combined tally of 174 (+30). Joe Burke showed a nine-stroke improvement from round one to round two with a 78 to wrap the tournament with a 165 (+21).
 
Northern Colorado won the event with a combined team score of 572, just one stroke ahead of Middle Tennessee State in second place. Western concluded play with a combined team score of 614.

Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Chicago State, Eastern Illinois, Evansville, Manhattan, Western Illinois.
 
UP NEXT:
The Purple and Gold are off until March 11, where they travel down to Jacksonville, Fla. for the
Benbow Collegiate Tournament.
