Two Sides to the Equation in Fargo

Only one other team has scored more points against No. 1 NDSU this season, but 57 points also tied the Bison's season-high.

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State football team hasn't lost a home game in three seasons, and the streak remained intact Saturday (Nov. 9) in a 57-21 decision over Western Illinois.

Despite the final, no one has scored more points against the nation's top team in Missouri Valley Football Conference play this season. The Leathernecks' 21 points also marked the second-most since the Bisons' 47-22 win over #18/18 Delaware in week three.

The Bison found the end zone for three consecutive touchdowns to start the game, and it became a 27-0 advantage at halftime.

Entering the game at the start of the third quarter, quarterback Kevin Johnson immediately drove the Leathernecks to their first touchdown of the afternoon (9:21). Clint Ratkovich served as the senior transfer's primary target, and together, the two accounted for 27 yards in the eight-play, 72-yard sequence.

Ratkovich is Western's active career touchdown leader (12) and now has five scores under his belt this season.

Initially ruled an incomplete pass, George Wahee was found to scoop and secure the ball in the end zone for his fourth receiving touchdown. The fourth quarter captured two TDs for the Leatherneck receiver, and there was no question on the second as he ran it in from 28 yards out with 9:04 remaining.

Next Saturday, Western will take to Hanson Field one last time. The Senior Day/Military Day matchup pits the Leathernecks against Southern Illinois in a 1 p.m. start.

WIU's senior class will be honored in a pregame ceremony, and all active and retired military personnel will receive free admission with a valid ID.

  • Justin Nutof recorded a team-best 11 tackles (five solo) and was followed by Eric Carrera (9 tackles), Andre Whitley (7), and Herschel Blankenship (7)
  • Johnson finished the afternoon 9-12 with 84 yards and two touchdowns
  • Western's point tally marked the most put up against the Bison in six straight seasons
