The Series | Western has a 26-16 edge in the all-time series. A season ago, Indiana State's last-second field goal snapped Western's five-game winning streak over the team.

Welcome Back, Max | Max Norris saw his first action of the year in Western's triple-overtime loss to Missouri State. The senior entered the Valley matchup at 998 career rushing yards and added 48 more. He added two touchdowns and a game-high 103 all-purpose yards.

NFL Debut | No. 99 Khalen Saunders made his NFL regular-season debut for the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday (Oct. 6), where he recorded a solo tackle.

The Chiefs currently sit atop the AFC West with an overall record of 4-1 and return to play Thursday, Nov. 13, against the Houston Texans.

Triple Overtime
| It took three overtime periods to decide the Missouri Valley Football Conference opener between Western Illinois and Missouri State on Saturday (Oct. 5), and the visiting Bears took home the 37-31 decision.

Western's last overtime game occurred in a 30-24, double-overtime win against South Dakota State on Nov. 21, 2015. The team was previously working a 5-0 winning streak in overtime games dating back to 2003.

In the Backfield | Marquis Smith has had at least two pass breakups in each of the last three games. He recorded three in back-to-back games against Montana State and Tennessee Tech.

Smith leads the Valley in passes defended (10).

Just Kickin It | Nathan Erickson continues to pace Western in scoring with a team-high 20 points. The junior kicker is 5-for-7 in field goals -- his longest coming from 45 yards out – with a perfect 12-for-12 effort in point-after attempts.

Double Down | Dennis Houston's inaugural Western campaign currently includes a team-best 302 receiving yards with two touchdowns. He is the only Leatherneck to post 100-plus receiving yards in a single game this season and achieved the feat in back-to-back in games against Montana State (141) and Tennessee Tech (111). The numbers sits fourth and fifth in the Valley, and he is one of two in the league with a pair of 100-yard performances.

With a 65-yard catch, Houston ties Kendon Walker for WIU's longest play of the year. The latter recorded a 65-yard rush at Colorado State.
