A Senior Day Battle

The Leathernecks drop a heartbreaker 1-0 to Oral Roberts in overtime.

MACOMB, Ill. - Everything was left out on the pitch by the Western Illinois women's soccer team on Senior Day as they dropped a heart breaker 1-0 to Oral Roberts at the end of overtime on Sunday (Oct. 27).

"Very tough way to lose," Director of Soccer Dr. Eric Johnson. "We played really well and to not get a result was heart breaking. Proud of our seniors and the way they've lead out team this season."

The Leathernecks unleashed 19 total shots to set a new team-high led by Amy Andrews with a career-high of six.

Zoe Clarke fired five shots with four being on frame as the midfielder nearly found the back of the net for WIU. She had a chance to find the golden goal in the first overtime, but her shot was saved. 

It looked like both sides earned a point, but Oral Roberts scored the golden goal in the 110th minute. 

Ines Palmiero Herrera held the Golden Eagles scoreless for 109 minutes with six saves to bring her career total to 258. 

Andrews, Cassidy GrunewaldNatalie NagleJenna Lundgren, Lauryn PetersNatalie Sielaff, and Bridget Schulergave every ounce as they each played all 110 minutes.
