The sophomore fired Western's lowest score of the day

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Western Illinois men's golf did not finish consistently after strong drives on the final day of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate Tuesday (Oct. 15). The Leathernecks stayed in eighth place with a combined three-round score of 906.

"We played some good stretches today but didn't enough birdies to reach the team goal we set," Director of Golf Lia Biehl Lukkarinen said. "Ball striking was good and we will work on wedges and lag putts."

Kyle Irlbacker led the way again by shooting a 75 the third round for a total score of 221 (+8) to wrap up in a tie for 28th place. Parker Govern fired the lowest Western score of the day at 74 to turn in a 229 (+16).

Joe Burke shot another round of 76 for a 230 (+17) tournament mark while Wyatt Spier (231) and Cameron Karney were close behind (233).

Wichita State held on to win with a combined score of 849, three strokes ahead of runner-up New Mexico State.

The Leathernecks are off for two weeks before heading south to the Tiger Fall Invitational hosted by Savannah State starting Oct. 27.
