Karney Posts Career Day

Cameron Karney played some of his best golf to lead the Leathernecks on the final day of the Zach Johnson Invitational

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Cameron Karney logged his career-low round and career-best tournament finish on the final day of the Zach Johnson Invitational at Glen Oaks Country Club Tuesday (Oct. 1). The Western Illinois men's golf team saved its best round of the event for last and finished in 11th place with a combined three-round score of 918 (+66).
 
"We had a lot better day today and scored well as a team," Director of Golf Lia Biehl Lukkarinen said. "Cameron shot a career-low and Kyle Irlbacker had a solid tournament as well. It was a good bounce back from yesterday."

Karney led the way by shooting a career-low 68 in the third round for a total score of 218 (+5) to wrap up in a tie for fourth place. Irlbacker finished just outside of the 'Top-10' in a tie for 14th after a 74 on day two for a combined 223 (+10).
 
Parker Govern fired a 75 for his best round of the tournament to turn in a 237 (+24). In the final 18 holes, Dylan Cervantes improved his round two tally by eight strokes to 78 for a final mark of 244 (+31).
 
Wyatt Spier continued his improvement throughout the tournament with a 77 in the final round to complete the event at 253 (+40). Individually, Kolby Chup concluded his second tournament as a Leatherneck at 242 after a final round of 76.
 
Loyola Chicago held on to win with a combined score of 888, two strokes ahead of runner-up Valparaiso.
 
The Leathernecks are off for two weeks before traveling west to the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate hosted by New Mexico State Oct. 14-15.
