Wetherbee Tabbed Summit League Golfer to Watch

| By:

The Galesburg native tees off for the last time as a Leatherneck this spring season.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.— Western Illinois men's golf student-athlete Jackson Wetherbee was named a Summit League Golfer to Watch, the league announced Friday (Jan. 18).

"Jackson is a very talented player who always finds a way to score," interim head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen said. "He was the lowest on the team with a scoring average of 73 and had three great fall events, including one tournament under par and five rounds at par or better. He is dedicated at practice and I anticipate he will finish his senior season at the top of the leaderboards."

A total of nine student-athletes were selected to the list based on nominations by each team's head coach.

Wetherbee, a senior from Galesburg, Ill., played 15 rounds in the fall of 2018 with a team-best 73.33 average. His lowest round this season is a 67 in the first round of the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational (Sept. 24-25). He notched two top-10 finishes this past fall, including one top-5 placing.

The Leathernecks were picked to finish eighth in the Summit League with a total of 15 points. Western Illinois opens the 2019 spring slate in St. George, Utah at the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational hosted by Southern Utah Feb. 11-12.
