WIU Athletics to Induct 2019 Hall of Fame Class Oct. 4-5

MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois University Athletic Department will announce its 2019 Hall of Fame class in June, with the induction ceremony scheduled for Homecoming Weekend (October 4-5, 2019). 

Nominations are now being accepted here and can be submitted in the following categories: athletes, coaches, teams, and administrators. The nomination period will close April 1, 2019. 

The Western Illinois University Athletic Hall of Fame began in 1974, and since then 36 classes have been inducted. Now a biennial event, the induction ceremony last occurred in 2017. The most recent Hall of Fame Class featured Aubrey Martin (track and field), Mike Scifres (football), and Zane Teilane (women's basketball). 

To be considered for selection into the Western Illinois University Athletic Hall of Fame, individuals or teams must fall into one of the following areas and qualify as the criteria in that area describes.
 
Athletes, Coaches, and Administrators
The nominee must qualify under one of the following:
- Be a student at Western Illinois University at least two years.
- Be a graduate of Western Illinois University.
- Be a coach at Western Illinois University.
- Be an athletic administrator.
- Must have conducted himself/herself in such a way as to reflect honor on the University and to have been found to have those qualities of character and standards of conduct found to be most desirable in one who may be cited as an example for young people.
- Athletes are eligible for admission to the Hall of Fame 10 years after their athletic eligibility expires or they graduate.
- Western Illinois University coaches and administrators are eligible for admission to the Hall of Fame immediately upon their retirement or five years after leaving employment at WIU. (Deceased candidates become eligible immediately.)
 
Criteria for outstanding contributors to the athletic program at WIU

- Individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the athletic program at Western Illinois University shall be eligible to be elected to the Hall of Fame. These individuals need not be graduates nor do they need to have been athletes at Western Illinois University.
- A person who does not qualify for the WIU Hall of Fame under any criteria named prior could become eligible for consideration upon serving as a head coach or administrator after graduation at another institution.
- Must have had an outstanding record while performing in athletics at Western Illinois University.
 
To be approved for induction, all candidates must receive 100 percent support from the Final Selection Committee. To be inducted into the Western Illinois University Hall of Fame, inductees must be present for the induction ceremony unless deceased.
