MACOMB, Ill. —
Every player on the Western Illinois women's basketball team scored as the Leathernecks (18-7, 8-3 Summit League) cruised to a 103-68 win over the visiting Omaha Mavericks (10-12, 1-8 Summit League) Wednesday night (Feb. 7).

"I thought that if we drop our intensity or aggressiveness from a nine and a half to a seven and a half [on a scale of 10], it's tough to do well," said head coach JD Gravina. "I thought we did that a couple of times, but we did get off to such a good start, so it can be hard not to let that intensity drop. On a couple of possessions we played poor transition defense where we were just on the back of our heals offensively, but overall its hard to complain when we put up 103. I thought we really picked it up in the third quarter once i got on them and that put the game out of reach."

Morgan Blumer tallied a game-high 28 points highlighted by four field goals from downtown. Emily Clemens added 19 points, eight assists, and six rebounds, and Taylor Higginbotham 17 points and nine rebounds.

Western Illinois jumped out to a 16-2 lead over the Mavericks early in the first quarter behind four made threes from Blumer. The Leathernecks eventually extended their advantage to 30-5 heading into the second, which included a 22-0 run over a 5:03 span.

After the Leathernecks opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run, sparked by another Blumer three, the Mavericks put together a quick 9-0 spurt with 6:31 to go. The Purple and Gold closed out the half with Blumer netting her 20th point to build a 46-21 lead through two quarters of play. In the third quarter, the Leathernecks went on to outscore Omaha 35-23 to build an 81-44 lead, capped by a Grace Gilmore layup.

The Leathernecks stay at home for their final two games of the season, as they take on Eureka College (Feb. 12), followed by Senior Day against South Dakota State Feb. 17 at 4:30 p.m.
