Denver Stifles Western Illinois on Senior Day

The Leathernecks fall 3-0 in the home finale.

MACOMB, Ill. — The Western Illinois women's soccer team (3-12-1, 0-6-0) registered two shots on goal a 3-0 loss on Senior Day to Denver (10-5-2, 6-1-0) on Sunday, Oct. 21.

Natalie Beckman crossed the ball into the box as Samantha Feller struck the ball into the bottom left corner of the net during the 19th minute. The Leathernecks trailed 1-0 at halftime and did not record a shot in the first half.
 
Meg Halvorson doubled the Denver lead with a shot from outside the box into the top right corner of the net in the 67th minute. Five minutes later, the ball was fought for in the box and Abbey Miller wound up tapping it into the back of the net for a 3-0 Pioneer advantage. Western Illinois was close to answering in the 76th minute when a header for Zoe Clarke hit the post followed by a shot from Lauryn Peters that was saved by the Denver goalkeeper.  
 
The Leathernecks travel to face Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. (CT).
