Women's Soccer Plays Ball State To 3-0 Defeat

The Leathernecks fell on the road Friday (Sept. 15).

MUNCIE, Ind. – Western Illinois Leathernecks women's soccer was shut out Friday (Sept. 15) in a 3-0 defeat at the Ball State Cardinals.
 
In the 26th minute, Sam Kambol struck for the match's first tally following assists from Ball State's (2-5-1) Emily Scott and Peighton Cook.
 
It took Western Illinois (0-7-0) until the 44th minute to register its first shot. However, Madeline Edwards' attempt was blocked to keep the tally at 1-0 heading into halftime. The Purple & Gold were outshot by a 17-4 margin for the match.
 
The Cardinals came out with an early second-half goal to dig a deeper hole for the Leathernecks. In the 53rd minute, Amanda Shaw scored from 15 yards out to increase the advantage to 2-0.
 
In the 72nd minute, Kambol struck again against the Western defense. The sophomore dribbled inside the 18-yard box and found the back of the net to widen the lead to 3-0.
 
Edwards, Mary Street, Michaela Cody and Ashley Kuhlmann each recorded one shot for the Leathernecks. In net, Ines Palmiero Herrera and Jennifer Currie both compiled two saves apiece.
 
Western Illinois plays host to Chicago State in Sunday's (Sept. 17) match at John MacKenzie Alumni Field in Macomb. The contest is slated for a 1 p.m. first touch.
