Softball Announces 2018 Slate

2018 campaign is road-heavy, featuring 28 straight road contests to start the season

FULL SCHEDULE

MACOMB, Ill. -
The Western Illinois softball team announced its 2018 spring slate Wednesday (Dec. 13).

"We are very excited about our spring schedule. We like to schedule challenging opponents in non-conference play to get us ready for a very competitive Summit League schedule, and we have done that once again with a trip to Gardner-Webb and exciting trips to Auburn and Kansas," said assistant coach Beth Golitko. "We can't wait to hit the ground running and see what the team can do."

The 2018 season will feature a road heavy-schedule, with 28 straight road contests to start the season. The Leathernecks will begin the campaign in Peoria, Ill. on Feb 9 in a two-day tournament that will feature three games. The Purple and Gold then travel to Boiling Springs, N.C. for a tournament hosted by Gardner-Webb. During the three-day affair, the Leathernecks will play Eastern Illinois twice, Gardner Webb, Creighton and Western Carolina University.

On Feb. 23, WIU heads to Chattanooga, Tenn. for the UTC Frost Classic, a tournament that will not pair host UTC and WIU together. From Chattanooga, WIU travels to Auburn University for four contests against Western Carolina, UNC-W twice, and Auburn University.

The road slate is continued in Wichita, Kan., as Western plays Missouri twice along with host Wichita State on March 10 and 11. Lawrence, Kan. will be the next destination for WIU as the Leathernecks will play the Jayhawks on March. 15 along with UMKC, Northern Colorado, Saint Louis and Murray State on March 16 and 17.

Western begins conference play on the road at South Dakota on March 30 and 31. The first home contest will be played on April 4 against Fort Wayne. The Leathernecks will have non-conference games on April 14 and 17 against Iowa State and Iowa, respectively.

The Leathernecks end the season against North Dakota State in Fargo, N.D. on May 5 and 6. WIU will compete two days later in Fargo in the The Summit League Championships from May 8-12.
