Darian Westerfield Joins Leatherneck Athletics

Westerfield hired as Senior Associate AD for Administration

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois Athletic Director Matt Tanney announced the hiring of Darian Westerfield as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration. The veteran administrator joined the Leathernecks on Tuesday (Jan. 3).
 
"We welcome Darian, with his broad-based experience in corporate sponsorships, sales, and marketing and promotions, to our administrative team. Given his prior experience at several other similarly situated Division I institutions, he understands the importance of revenue generation and external engagement at this level. Leatherneck Athletics will benefit from his leadership of multiple operational units," said Tanney.
 
Westerfield will be responsible for multiple facets of the Leatherneck Athletics administrative operations oversight, including: sport supervision, marketing/promotions, athletic communications, game day operations and social media. He will have administrative responsibilities for personnel and student-athlete sport performance, along with special projects.
 
"I am excited to become part of the Fighting Leatherneck family here in Macomb and the Western Illinois University campus. I am honored to now steward the 'Tradition of Tough' with WIU Athletics," said Westerfield.
 
The Lebanon, Missouri, native joins Western after spending the last 18 months as the General Manager for the Oakland Sports Properties through the Rockbridge Sports Group. He was responsible for radio revenue generation and corporate sponsorship sales for the Golden Grizzlies' radio network.
 
He worked for a year and a half at St. Bonaventure in a Senior Associate AD for External Relations role. Westerfield oversaw the Bonnies' revenue-generating areas, including: capital project fundraising, the Bonnies Athletic Fund, basketball ticket sales, corporate sales, and licensing while overseeing the communications and marketing department.
 
During his career, Westerfield has worked in various external relations roles at: Morehead State, Indiana State, Western Kentucky, Northern Illinois, Memphis, and Missouri.
 
Westerfield is a 1997 graduate of Lindenwood (Mo.) University and earned his master's degree in Public Administration from Missouri State.
