Women's Soccer Drops Regular Season Home Match To Milwaukee

Western fell 4-0 to the Panthers Friday, Sept. 2 at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.

The Western Illinois women's soccer team fell 4-0 to the visiting Milwaukee Panthers Friday, Sept.  2 at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.

The Leathernecks (1-3) fell behind early in the 14th minute when Milwaukee's Maria Stephans scored near the left post to go up 1-0. Right before the half, Western fell in a 2-0 deficit after Milwaukee's Marissa Stovring received a pass inside the box from Lourdes Onwuemeka to score in the left-hand side of the net. 

The third goal came after the Panther's Anna Smalley shot the ball at Western's Inas Palmiero Herrara, who deflected the ball for a save. Immediately following the save, Smalley was able to score off the deflection in the 52nd minute.

The final goal was recorded by Maddie Tetzke, who received a cross from Onwuemeka in the 69th minute to close out the match.

The Leathernecks were outshot 9-7 in the match. The Panthers won the battle of corner kicks (3-2), while Western's Palmiero Herrara recorded three saves in the total 90 minutes she played.

Madeline Edwards recorded three of Western's seven shots, while Lilly Butler, Michaela Cody, Alexandra Siavelis and Nicole Beer all recorded one shot. Cody and Beer also had a shot on goal.

Up next for the Leathernecks is a road trip to Kalamazoo, Mich., where they will take on Western Michigan Sunday, Sept. 4 at noon. The next home match will be Friday, Sept.  9 at 4 p.m. against North Dakota.
