PRESEASON INFORMATION
MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois volleyball team continues their seven-match home stand this Tuesday (Sept. 20) when Saint Louis comes to town. First serve is slated to begin at 6 p.m. inside Western Hall. The match will also be broadcasted live on ESPN3.
 
EDUCATOR APPRECIATION NIGHT: Western Illinois welcomes all educators to Western Hall on Tuesday evening for Educator Appreciation Night. All educators will be recognized and both Rocky and Colonel Rock III will be in attendance.

SCOUTING THE BILIKENS: Saint Louis is 4-10 on the season, with their wins coming over Illinois State (3-0), Virginia (3-2), Austin Peay (3-2) and Omaha (3-0). Last weekend, the Billikens played host to their own invitational where they went 1-2. Danielle Rygelski leads SLU offensively with an impressive 278 kills (5.35/set). Rygelski is also a defensive weapon as she ranks second on the team in blocks (24) and digs (137).
 
SERIES HISTORY: The Billikens lead the all-time series 16-8. Western has fallen in straight sets to SLU in back-to-back seasons (Sept. 6, 2014 and Sept. 8 2015). The Leathernecks' last win over SLU came on Oct. 2, 2012 where they won 3-0 on the road.
 
LEATHERNECK LEADERS: Senior Kaili Simmons leads The Summit League with 231 digs. Her 4.36 digs per set ranks second. Junior Shalyn Greenhaw is third in the league with 171 kills. She averages 3.23 kills per set which ranks fourth. Abby Skryd leads the Leathernecks with 365 assists (6.76 per set) while Lexi Kolschefski leads the team with 46 total blocks.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Western opened a successful week at home with a 3-1 victory over Chicago State on Sept. 13. The Leathernecks then played host to the Hampton Inn Invitational on Sept. 16-17. Western opened up play with a five set thriller over Drake where they won 3-2. On Saturday, WIU grabbed its third straight victory over Southeast Missouri State with a 3-0 sweep. The win marked the first time the program had won three straight matches since the 2012 season. Western fell to undefeated Weber State 3-1 to close out competition Saturday evening.
 
Greenhaw compiled a career-high 23 kills over Drake and tied her career-high 20 digs for a double-double. On the week, she hit .231 with 61 kills and 35 digs. Simmons contributed with 80 digs on the week, while Skryd dished out 159 assists.
 
UP AHEAD: Tuesday's match will serve as the final tune up before opening Summit League this weekend. On Friday (Sept. 23) Western takes on South Dakota at 7 p.m. inside Western Hall before facing off against Fort Wayne Sunday at 1 p.m., also in Macomb.
