MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois volleyball team is preparing to open a seven match home swing, beginning with Chicago State on Tuesday (Sept. 13) at 6 p.m. inside Western Hall.
 
FOLLOW THE MATCH: Fans can watch the action via the Leatherneck Sports Network HERE. Live stats and live audio will also be available.
 
SCOUTING THE COUGARS: Chicago State is 1-8 on the season, with their lone victory coming over Savannah State (Sept. 9) in straight sets. Dzeni Hadzisehovic will be the player to watch as she has compiled 87 kills (2.81/set) on the year. Defensively, Shedella Smith has 26 total blocked and Kiana Chaney has 107 digs.
 
SERIES HISTORY: Tuesday will mark the 42nd meeting between the two programs. Western holds the all-time advantage, 36-5. The two teams faced off last season in a close matchup on September 9, 2015 where the Cougars took the victory in straight sets (25-19, 29-27, 26-24). Before last season, the Leathernecks took 18 straight matches from CSU.
 
LEATHERNECK LEADERS: Shalyn Greenhaw has racked up 110 kills on the season (2.97/set) and ranks second on the team with 98 digs and 19 total blocks. Kaili Simmons is the team leader in digs with 151. Abby Skryd has dished out 206 assists and eight service aces, followed by Hannah Walker who has 96 assists and five aces. Lexi Kolschefski has 28 total blocks.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Leathernecks competed at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational this past weekend (Sept. 9-10). On the opening day of competition, Western fell to Green Bay in straight sets. The Leathernecks battled McNeese State to five sets after coming back from a 2-0 deficit. Greenhaw led the offensive attack with 16 kills. Skryd compiled a season high 42 assists, 13 digs and four kills. Simmons had 28 digs, also a season-high. On Sunday, Western lost to Missouri State in straight sets to conclude tournament play.
 
UP AHEAD: On Sept. 16-17, Western plays host to the 2016 Hampton Inn Leatherneck Invitational. In addition to Western, Drake, Southeast Missouri and Weber State will be in attendance. The Leathernecks play Drake on Friday at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Western opens day two with a match against Southeast Missouri at 11 a.m. before closing play against Weber State at 7 p.m.
