Men's Soccer Falls 3-0 to Lipscomb

The Leathernecks dropped a 3-0 contest to the Bisons.

MACOMB, Ill.- The Fighting Leatherneck men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 road match to Lipscomb on Sunday, Aug. 28, in the second straight road game in Nashville, Tenn.

Western fell behind 1-0 off a ninth minute goal from Lipscomb's Logan Paynter off a cross and a header into the far post. That would be the only goal of the first half, as the Leathernecks went into halftime with a one-goal deficit.

The Bisons came out in the second half and netted two goals in the 52nd and 88th minutes. Paynter scored his second goal of the match, followed by a goal from Kyle Smith from 10 yards out.

Freshman goalkeeper Tim Trilk recorded two saves, while Armel Kouassi recorded a shot in the 59th minute. The Leathernecks had two corner kick opportunities (all in the second half), while the Bisons recorded four in the match.

Western (0-1-1) heads back on the road for its third and fourth straight road matches. The Leathernecks travel to Dallas, Texas, for a Sept.  2 meeting against SMU at 7 p.m., followed by another road match against Valparaiso two days later (Sept. 4) at 3:30 p.m. The first regular season home match at John MacKenzie Alumni Field takes place Saturday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. against Bowling Green.
