2016 'Day in the Life'
MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois volleyball team hits the road for their last away match of the year on Saturday (Nov. 5) against South Dakota State. First serve in Brookings is set for 7 p.m.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: The Jackrabbits are 4-20 overall and 3-9 in league play. After dropping three straight, SDSU topped Fort Wayne by a score of 3-1 on Oct. 30. Ashley Beaner ranks third in the league with 3.61 kills/set, while Ellie Benson ranks fifth in digs/set with 4.42. The Jackrabbits are hitting .144 on the year as a team. SDSU plays at Omaha on Friday before hosting Western Saturday evening.
 
SERIES HISTORY: On Oct. 16, the Jackrabbits came from behind two sets to top the Leathernecks 3-2 in Macomb. SDSU leads the all-time series 14-6 as Western has dropped three straight meetings. The last victory for WIU came on Oct. 12, 2014 by a score of 3-0.
 
DIGGIN' IT: The Leathernecks lead The Summit League with 1,655 total digs (15.91/set, 4th). Senior Kaili Simmons has accounted for 521 of them, followed by Shalyn Greenhaw who has 210 and Claire Grove (207). Simmons is the league leader in total digs and ranks second with 5.06 digs per set. She has consistently ranked in the top 10 in the NCAA in total digs all season and currently ranks 7th.
 
A LOOK AT THE LEATHERNECKS: The Leathernecks sit at the bottom of the league standings with a 1-12 mark (4-25 overall). Their lone win came over Omaha on Sept. 27. Greenhaw leads the team with 256 kills, while Lexi Kolschefski and Riley Schumacher have accounted for 60 and 54 total blocks, respectively.
 
UP AHEAD: The Leathernecks have two remaining matches at home following Saturday's contest. On Friday, Nov. 11, Western plays host to IUPUI at 5 p.m. The following day, WIU takes on Omaha at 7 p.m. for Senior Day.
