Women's Soccer Falls to SDSU in Summit League Play

Leathernecks are back in action this Sunday at North Dakota State

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Western Illinois women's soccer team fell 2-0 at South Dakota State Friday, Oct. 7. The Leathernecks drop to 1-2 overall in league play, while the Jackrabbits improve to 2-0.

After a scoreless first half, the Leathernecks fell into a 1-0 deficit after a Jackrabbit goal from within 10 yards inside the box at the 66th minute.

"I thought we were really good defensively again, the backline is maturing and made it difficult for them," said Director of Soccer Dr. Eric Johnson. "I think it was a plus for us to keep them off the scoreboard as late as they did. We're showing that we're continuing to get better, and hopefully we're looking positive going into North Dakota State."

South Dakota State went up 2-0 when Darien Poelstra scored off a shot from the top of the box ('85).

Brianna Hughes led Western with two shots on goal while Madeline Edwards and Emily Bollman both recorded a shot each.

In goal, Jennifer Currie recorded six saves.

The Leathernecks (3-8-1, 1-2) return to action Sunday, Oct. 9 at North Dakota State.
