MACOMB, Ill. - The 2015 regular season comes to a close for Western Illinois softball with a three-game series against the Omaha Mavericks. The Leathernecks are currently one game behind South Dakota State for fourth place heading into the weekend series. Should the Leathernecks pass the Jackrabbits, Western Illinois would be the home team in the opening round matchup with SDSU at the 2015 Summit League Softball Championships. 

SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS: Omaha is in its final year of transition from Division II and remains ineligible for postseason play... Omaha is led by Allie Mathewson who is hitting .306... Mathewson leads the team with 12 home runs and is second on the team with 30 RBIs... Tony Peterson enters the weekend batting .301 with 10 doubles and four home runs... Lizzie Noble has driven in 32 runs this season to lead the Mavs and adds six home runs... Kat Barrow and Jaylee Hinrichs have split the majority of the work in the circle... Barrow is 7-9 on the year with a 3.15 ERA... Barrow has 80 strikeouts and 28 walks... Hinrichs is 12-12 with a 3.72 ERA... The freshman has struck out 104 batters this year, while walking 45 in 129.2 innings... Jeanne Scarpello enters her 16th year as head coach of the Mavericks.

SERIES HISTORY: The Leathernecks lone win over Omaha came in 2013, a 4-3 win in Omaha... Omaha and Western met prior to the NCAA Division I era for the Leathernecks, with Omaha taking all four games... Western has lost four straight to the Mavericks, and trail the all-time series 1-10.
 
WESTERN DROPS FINAL NONCONFERENCE GAME: Western Illinois fell 9-0 in six innings to Illinois... The Fighting Illini scored seven runs in the final three innings... Tierney Bottino and Lia Romeo collected hits for Western.
