FINAL RESULTS

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Western Illinois men's golf squad wrapped up play in the 2015 NYX Hoosier Invitational Sunday afternoon (April 12) in 13th place with a season-best score of 885. The Fighting Leathernecks opened the event with 292 and a 302 during day one before carding a season-low mark of 291 in round three.

"We played really well in Indiana's invitational," said head coach Mel Blasi. "All five guys contributed and we were able to shoot two of our lowest rounds of the year. Nate (Davis) and Andrew (Blackburn) were solid in all three rounds for our team score. Freshman Sean Miller has really impressed me over the last two weeks, and he is really close to breaking through and shooting an under-par round."

WIU's previous best single-round score was 293, which occurred during the fall at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate in Kentucky. The Leathernecks previous best three-round score was an 896, which also occurred at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate.

Nate Davis finished with a team-best score of 218. The senior captain's score tied his previous season low. Davis opened the event with a 74 before firing back-to-back 72s in round two and three.

Shooting a career-best, three-round score and tying for 30th place overall was Andrew Blackburn with a 219. The sophomore used scores of 73, 74 and a 72. His 72 in round three marked a season low.

Junior Alex Templin recorded a 225 and finished tied for 50th. Templin opened with a round-one score of 72, tying his career-low, before hitting a 77 in round two and a 76 in round three.

The only freshman in WIU's lineup, Sean Miller, finished tied for 66th with a 228. Miller fired a season-best mark of 73 in round one. He then finished the event with an 81 and a 74.

Austin Von Alst finished 79th with a 233, improving his score in each round. The sophomore golfer hit an 81 in round one, a 79 in round two and a 73 during the final 18 holes.

Wisconsin won the team title with an 853 (286-279-288), and Jose Montano of Xavier earned medalist honors with a 207 (71-67-69).

Western concludes its regular season with the program's yearly home event, the 43rd annual Beu/Mussatto Invitational April 20-21.
