Coach Wright Postgame Interview

TULSA, Okla. –
The Fighting Leatherneck men's basketball squad was unable to overcome 21 turnovers in a 77-67 loss at Oral Roberts Thursday night (Feb. 12).

Western Illinois trailed by 16 points midway through the second half before cutting its deficit to five with a minute to play. WIU's comeback effort fell short, however, as the Golden Eagles were able to connect on their free throws down the stretch on their way to their seventh league win of the season.

Oral Roberts, who sits third in the league standings after the win, is 7-4 in Summit League play and 14-11 overall, while the Leathernecks drop to 3-8 in league action and 8-14 overall.

J.C. Fuller again led Western in points with 18. He made 7-of-15 shots from the field and 3-of-5 from long range. The junior guard also had five rebounds

Junior forward Jalen Chapman, who played a season-high 33 minutes Thursday, was the only other Leatherneck to score in double figures with 13. Chapman also had a team-high eight boards, the team's only two blocks, and a steal.

Leading the team in assists with eight was sophomore guard Jabari Sandifer. The Naperville, Ill. native also had a team-high three steals, five points and three rebounds.

Junior guard Jamie Batish and sophomore guard Garret Covington finished with nine and eight points, respectively. Batish made 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and had four rebounds, while Covington added six boards.

Korey Billbury led ORU with 20 points and seven rebounds in 30 minutes of play.

WIU matched its season-high in turnovers committed with 21, and ORU was able to score 21 points off of those turnovers.

The Leathernecks are back in action Saturday afternoon (Feb. 14) when they play the Mavericks of Omaha in Nebraska at 1 p.m.
