Trenton Norvell Earns Second MVFC Offensive Weekly Award

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Western Illinois sophomore quarterback Trenton Norvell (Daytona Beach, Fla./Seabreeze) picked up his second Missouri Valley Football Conference 'Offensive Player of the Week' award following his career-best performance Saturday. Norvell helped lead the Fighting Leathernecks to a 44-29 road win at South Dakota.

Norvell set a career-high throwing five touchdown passes, to five different receivers, while accumulating 287 yards on 20-of-28 passing.

He completed a 12-yarder (Larry Harris) and 34-yarder (Hi-C Scott) in the first quarter, and 22 yards to J.C. Baker in the second quarter. Norvell threw another 12-yard TD pass (Joey Borsellino) in third quarter and 17 yards to Lance Lenoir, Jr. in the fourth.

His five TD passes were one shy of the single-game record, and moved him into six-way tie with the second-most in a game.

With 188-of-321 passing and 2,462 yards this year, Norvell also has 20 TDs to nine interceptions. He moved into a tie for eighth place among the season 'Top 10' leaders in TD passes, ninth place in passing yards, eighth place in completions, and his current 246.2 yards per game average would rank him fourth.

The sophomore now ranks 11th nationally with his MVFC-leading 20 TD passes. His passing yards lead the league (and 12th in the country). Norvell enters this week 31st nationally with a 137.9 passing efficiency.

The Leathernecks (4-6 overall, 2-4 MVFC) travel to South Dakota State (ranked 22nd last week) this Saturday (Nov. 15), kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
