MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois freshman infielder Megan Kelly (Worth, Ill./Mount Assisi Academy) has been named as the Papa John's Scholar-Athlete of the week for her accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.

Kelly helped the Fighting Leathernecks to a 2-2 record at the Auburn University Tiger Invitational this past weekend. Western Illinois recorded their first two wins of the season against Western Carolina (Feb. 18) and Campbell (Feb. 20.)

Kelly started all four games at third base for the Leathernecks and batted .625 (5-for-8) with three runs, a homer and three RBI. Her three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Western a 5-2 win over Campbell in extra innings on Sunday.

She was 3-for-3 in the contest and scored two runs. Kelly was also a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate against McNeese State on Friday and is batting .600 (6-for-10) with three runs, a double, one homer and three RBI this season.

Off the field, Kelly carries a 3.188 GPA in the classroom. She is the first Leatherneck Softball player to be named as the Scholar-Athlete of the Week this season. During the 2010 season, three different Leatherneck Softball players earned the award.
