MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois Department of Athletics
inducted five new members into the Hall of Fame. The 2010 class includes: three
student-athletes, a contributor and administrator. The induction ceremony took
place Friday night (Sept. 24) in the Lamoine Room inside the University Union.
The class consists of:
Charlie Carey (contributor), Wendell McKemey
(1982-85, Track and Field), Dr. Helen Smiley (Administrator), Aaron
Stecker (1997-98, Football) and Curt Westen (1978-82, Football).
Associate Athletics Director Sean McDonough served as Master of Ceremonies.
University President Dr. Al Goldfarb gave a welcome address, Al Boyer (Hall of
Fame member) gave the Invocation and Closing, and Director of Athletics Dr. Tim Van Alstine
gave a final address.
Nearly 200 attended the event, including 19 members of the Hall of Fame.
The five newest members will be also be honored during the Homecoming parade
Saturday morning, then during halftime of the Leathernecks' football game on
September 25th against Indiana State (3 p.m. kickoff).
