Box Score
MACOMB, Ill. - Summit League Freshman of the Year Jamie Goss kept Western Illinois alive in the 2009 Softball Championships by driving in the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving the Westerwinds a 1-0 win over North Dakota State and forcing a game seven in the double-elimination tournament.
After the first two batters in the Westerwinds' half of the final frame fouled out and grounded out, Julie DePolo drew a walk, her third of the game, and Lauren Furgala reached base when she was hit with the first pitch. Goss' two-out single up the middle that drove in DePolo was her second hit of the game, accounting for half of the team's total.
The victory, which handed the Bison their first loss of the tournament, was the second rally today for the Westerwinds, who had just come off a 5-3 10-inning win over Southern Utah to advance to the championship game.Â
Kamren Ferguson threw back-to-back complete games, allowing just three hits and three walks to the Bison while striking out five. She will return to the circle immediately for the championship game.
