OMAHA, Neb. - Constanza Camacho earned a pair of wins at No. 2 singles to help Western Illinois earn its first women's tennis victory of the season, defeating South Dakota State, 6-1, at Creighton. Playing two dual matches Saturday, the Westerwinds fell to the host Bluejays by the same score.
Camacho defeated South Dakota State's Kate Wylie (6-4, 6-4) and Creighton's Nicole Thurston (6-3, 6-7, 10-8 tiebreaker) to improve her singles record to 3-1 this spring, and also won at No. 3 doubles with partner Jessica Drake, shutting out the Jackrabbits' Rachel Schmieding and Carrie Jansen, 8-0, for their first win together.
The Westerwinds (1-3) also had singles victories from Kim Lennartsson, Yana Meinert, Courtney Brooks and Stephanie Baumer, at numbers one through five, and swept all three doubles matches against the Jackrabbits.
"We're thrilled to get the first victory of the season," said Western Illinois head coach Michael Hunt. "Constanza stood out for us today with a pair of wins in two tough matches."
