DES MOINES, Iowa - The Western Illinois University men?s tennis team claimed a close 4-3 decision over Nebraska-Kearney Sunday, in Des Moines, Iowa. Western won four of the six singles matches to earn its first victory of the season.At No. 1 singles, sophomore Martin Bostr?m (Stockholm, Sweden) defeated William Jacomb, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. After falling at the No. 2 and 3 slots, the Leathernecks came back and won at No. 4, 5 and 6. Freshmen Sean Ragee-Nelson (Decatur, Ill.) and Neil Lesinski (Grayslake, Ill.) won at No. 4 and 5 respectively. Ragee-Nelson outsted Nate Wiegand, 7-5, 6-1, while Lesinski defeated Luke Backhaus, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. At No. 6 singles, junior Drew Forsberg (Moline, Ill.) won over Jason Lescelious, 6-1, 6-4.Western was able to win only one of the doubles matches, with Bostr?m and Ragee-Nelson capturing the No. 2 match over Wiegand and Espinosa, 8-2.The Western Illinois will be back in action Saturday, against Marquette inMilwaukee.
