Women?s Soccer Adds Three to 2004 Roster

MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois University women?s soccer coach Richard Moller has added three more players to the mix for the 2004 season. The three charges for 2004 are goalkeeper Loes Geurts (Bolsward, The Netherlands/Marne High School), midfielder Anna Sutton (Richfield, Minn./Richifield) and midfielder/forward Kelly Warner (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard South). ?I am extremely excited about Anna, Kelly, and Loes signing with Western,? said Moeller. ?Anna and Kelly are tremendous attacking players and Loes is the best goalkeeper in the Netherlands, which will benefit our backline.? Geurts is a goalkeeper for the under-19 National Team for the Netherlands, which will compete in the second week of April against the U-19 teams from the United States, China and Japan in Los Angeles at the Home Depot Center. Geurts is currently aiding the U-19 team in qualifying for the United European Football Association (UEFA) European Championship, which takes place at the end of July in Finland. In order to qualify, the Netherlands must finish in at least second-place in their group, which features France (April 26), England (April 28) and Belgium (April 30).?We added one of the best goalkeepers from the Netherlands by signing Loes. Her experience playing big-time international games is priceless to our team,? said Moller about Geurts? international credits. ?Loes will add to every players? confidence level with her agility, quickness and dependablity. Her consistency, coupled with her ability to make big-time saves will allow us to set high team goals, such as winning the Mid-Con title.?Sutton, a captain for two seasons at Richfield, was an All-Conference honorable mention selection in the Classic Suburban Conference in Minnesota for the 2003 season. Sutton is also a member of the Richfield Roadrunners, a premier club team in the Minneapolis-area. ?Anna can play out wide, which seems to be natural for her, yet over the past three years, she also developed a comfort level playing on top. Anna has a feisty attacking sense with good quickness.? Warner is a three-time All-Conference selection in the Suburban Prairie Conference and was named Illinois All-Sectional following her junior year. After just three years, Warner is second in Glenbard South history in goals scored with 46. In the summer of 2003, she was named to the Notre Dame All-Star Camp team and helped the team defeat the Notre Dame players for the first time in the camp?s history.?Kelly is a dynamic, attacking player who has the ability to change the game in an instant. She is a fluid player who moves effortlessly, a tremendous ability to run at players and is dangerous at all times due to her speed and athleticism. She is also very capable with the ball at her feet, has a great tactical awareness of the game and has that combination of intensity on the defensive side of things. She?ll be a great addition to our team in the midfield.?In addition to the three new signees, Moller signed nine in February which were Angie Guy (Davenport, Iowa/Davenport Assumption), Delaine Pattison (Alberta, Canada/Bowness High), Bess Rap (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast), Julia Remes (Arden Hills, Minn./Totino Grace), Liz Remes (Arden Hills, Minn./Totino Grace), Robyn Ruypers (Ontario, Canada/Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Inst.), Kim Slutz (East Moline, Ill./United Township), Jena Sternquist (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) and Jessica Taylor (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna).
