Swimming & Diving Winless In Chicago

The Western Illinois men's and women's swimming and diving teams each dropped two contests at the UIC Natatorium Saturday. The men were defeated by Saint Louis 145-95, and by Illinois-Chicago 173-67. The women fell to SLU 185-59 and to UIC 156-86.The Leathernecks were led in scoring by Mark DuBois, who turned in a season-best time in the 50 freestyle (:22.60) for third place and finished fourth in the 100 freestyle (:49.09). Dru Dennis earned the best individual finish for Western, taking second in the 200 backstroke (2:00.08), the top team time this year. Teammate Jason Hiermann came in third (2:00.86). Phil Rugari took third in the 1000 freestyle (10:28.56) and was followed closely by teammate Brent Eames in fourth place (10:30.70). Greg Roberts added another fourth place finish for Western in the 200 freestyle (1:48.11), the top event time of the year for the Leathernecks, and the 200 breaststroke (2:18.70).Joe Hamlin, DuBois, Matt Clavey, and Eames combined to take second in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:31.58 while Dennis, Dennis Norton, Joe Kuchyak, and Mike Adams teamed to take third in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:41.30.Zoe Hochhauser and Madeha Farrar each posted third place times for the Western women. Hochhauser's third place in the 500 freestyle (5:16.98) and Farrar's third place effort in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.05) are both season-best times. The Western women also recorded a host of fourth place finishes on the day. Hochhauser took fourth in the 1000 freestyle (10:53.40), Erika Sheridan finished fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:00.89), and Kristen Tucker came in fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:21.94). Megan Seibert added a fourth place finish in the one meter dive as well (196.40). Farrar, the reigning Mid-Continent Conference femal Athlete of the Week, finished fifth in a competitive 200 individual medley (2:18.70), a season-best event finish.The 200 medley relay team of Erin Hall, Farrar, Lindsay Mathis, and Tucker turned in a season-best time of 1:52.81, good enough for second place. Sheridan, Hochhauser, Marcy Thomasson, and Angie Couch also set a season-best time of 1:45.45 in the 200 freestyle relay.The Western swimming and diving squads will conclude the fall portion of their season when they compete in the Mid-Con Championships December 4-6 at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
