MACOMB, IL- Scott Simpson, a former Western Illinois University tennis standout, will be inducted into the United States Professional Tennis Association Midwest Division Hall of Fame on Thursday, August 15 in Indianapolis as just the 25th member of the Hall of Fame and the only inductee this year.Simpson was a four-time national qualifier in tennis, compiling a school record for wins in the number-one singles position from 1971 to 1974. He was team captain for two years and named Most Valuable Player twice in his career. He was inducted into the Western Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame in 1990. A 27-year USPTA member Simpson, gives tennis lessons part time at the Danville (IL) Tennis Club, where he was the Head Pro and Club Manager for 22 years. In the 2000-01 season, Simpson coached Parkland College, to an 11-0 record, regional championship and a 10th-place national finish. He works full-time as a mortgage lender at First Midwest Bank in Danville.Simpson?s daughter Tara is in her second year of tennis at Western Illinois. She finished her first season at Western with a 4-4 overall singles record, as the women combined for a 29-23 overall record. - western illinois tennis -
